Internship Qualification & Submission Questions:
1.) Do I need to be a Junior or Senior in College in order to apply?
This is preferred but students can apply regardless of their year in College.
2.) How far in advance should I apply for the internship position in which I wish to work?
Applications are taken year round, but we suggest applying at least two to three months before you wish to start.
3.) Do I need any particular skills or previous experience prior to applying?
The internships at SFIA are competitive and prior experience will help both with the work completed for the duration of your internship and in finding full time work afterwards.
4.) What duties will I be asked to perform at my internship?
Generally speaking each intern will be given one larger project to work on throughout their entire internship, however day to day duties will vary depending on the particular time of year and what types of events/projects the SFIA is involved with. Some examples of responsibilities include:
- Website Maintenance
- Database entry/maintenance
- Working Events
- Graphic Design Assistance
- Tracking In-Brief Clicks
- Drafting Press Releases
5.) Where is the SFIA office located?
We have had interns from all over the country, from CA to TN to OH, that have traveled to the DC-VA-MD metro area to work with us. Our SFIA Headquarters is located in downtown Silver Spring, MD which is in the suburbs of DC. Interns are expected to work at this office location throughout their entire internship.
General Internship Questions:
1.) What is the duration of each internship period?
There are no specific start and end dates for each internship period. However, summer interns most often work two to three months, while spring and fall interns work throughout the whole semester.
2.) How many hours am I expected to work at my internship?
Winter & Summer interns usually work full time, while Fall and Spring Interns work less hours due to a more rigorous school schedule.
3.) Will I get course credit for my internship?
Course credit can be given to students as long as they provide SFIA with the proper instructions and documents that are necessary to submit to their college/university.
4.) Is the internship paid or unpaid?
This internship is unpaid, however interns are given a stipend of $15 per day to cover lunch and the cost of transportation.
5.) What is the office dress attire?
Our office attire on a day to day business is office casual, however a suit and tie will be required for days when traveling to to Capitol Hill.
6.) Are there job opportunities available within the company beyond my internship period?
There may or may not be a position available with the company depending on the time you complete your internship and the work you complete here. However, the SFIA has many connections within the sporting goods and fitness industry and would be happy to help you network in order to find full time employment after your internship.
