The SFIA Solution: Launched in September 2014, the Increase Participation Plan is the biggest initiative the sports and fitness industry has undertaken to increase participation. SFIA, working closely with industry partner PHIT America, are executing a two pronged plan to combat the inactivity pandemic and get 1 million kids active again by 2020.
- Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act: The PHIT Act is legislation pending in Congress which will allow Americans to use Pre-Tax Medical Accounts to pay for physical activity expenses. The PHIT Act will provide an incentive for adults and their children to get fit which will help prevent healthcare costs related to preventable chronic diseases.
- Go! Grants: GO! Grants are $1,000 to $5,000 grants to elementary schools to spark and sustain physical activity programs that take place before, during or after the school day. The funds may be used for equipment, facilities, professional development for adults and programs that increase students’ physical activity to the recommended 60 minutes or more per day. Grants are available in all states and the District of Columbia.
