Legislation to Improve Impact of President's Council's Efforts
SILVER SPRING, MD – December 15, 2010 – The United States Congress has approved the creation of the National Foundation on Physical Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition Establishment Act (S. 1275). And, now, a signature from President Obama is what’s needed in order for that legislation to become the law of the land.
Yesterday in Washington, D.C., the U.S. House of Representatives approved S. 1275 which would establish the National Foundation on Physical Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition as a charitable, nonprofit corporation to promote participation by private organizations in the activities of the President's Council on Physical Fitness, Nutrition, and Sports.
“Quite simply, this legislation will allow the Foundation, in conjunction with the President’s Council, to authorize contributors and suppliers of goods or services to use such trade name, trademark, seal, symbol, insignia, or emblem in advertising under specified conditions,” said Bills Sells, SGMA’s vice president of government relations.
The Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA), the #1 source for sport and fitness research, is the leading global trade association of manufacturers, retailers, and marketers in the sports products industry. SGMA helps lead the sports and fitness industries by fostering participation through research, thought leadership, product promotion, and public policy.
