CHICAGO – Tuesday, March 1, 2011 – To bridge the gap between technological innovation and injury prevention, McDavid® has added a new service to its trade in 2011: Education. The Chicago-based sports medical and protective apparel company will use a semi-annual newsletter to inform athletic trainers, coaches, physical therapists, sports medicine clinics and professionals about what resources and tools are available to keep players of all levels protected.
The first newsletter was mailed out this week to a distribution list of over 40,000 and will continually be disseminated at trade shows and conferences throughout the year. It includes articles about the prevalence of youth injuries and how McDavid® can help prevent them; the increased ability for sports medicine specialists and trainers to locate supportive gear at retail locations on a moment's notice; the ease of connecting with McDavid® through social media and the interactive website; and the unique way in which McDavid®'s signature HexPad technology has changed the landscape of athletic apparel by incorporating protection.
"Our job does not end with making quality products," Rey Corpuz, director of marketing for McDavid® said. "It is our responsibility and desire to make sure the athletes and professionals in our market understand how injuries occur and what specific actions need to be taken to prevent and manage those injuries."
McDavid® has always sought to be a resource of information to its consumers, but made the decision recently to broaden its scope by introducing a more dynamic newsletter – focusing on injury prevention, protection and rehabilitation – than what was distributed in years past. The newsletter features a detailed listing of all retail locations, team dealers and distributors who carry McDavid® sports medicine products.
"There was a time when an injury could keep an athlete out of the game longer than necessary, because he/she didn't have supportive gear readily available," Corpuz said. "But times have changed, and now the core of our sports medicine products are available at thousands of stores across the country. People just need to know what they are looking for and where to get it."
McDavid®’s website breaks down its products by sport and area of protection, making it easier for the consumer to find which support is best for their specific injury. A customer hotline is also available for personal assistance.
Corpuz explains that McDavid® has increased its use of online media in the past year to keep athletes, consumers and dealers aware of industry issues and the company's responses to those issues.
"We have been a trusted provider of sports medical products and protective performance apparel for years," Corpuz said. "Now, we're taking the next step and focusing our efforts on empowering those we serve with knowledge."
