SGMA Announces New Addition to NOCSAE Board

Nike Safety Manager Named to Board Position

SILVER SPRING, MD – June 8, 2011 – There’s a new member of the board of directors for the National Operating Committee on Standards of Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE)…..and it’s Lars Fuchs of Nike, Inc.   Fuchs is the safety manager for protective products and on-field regulations for global apparel & equipment at Nike.

Fuchs will be assuming the second industry/licensee seat on the board of directors of NOCSAE. His term is for two years with the possibility to be re-selected for a second two-year term. He is a veteran of numerous NOCSAE meetings and processes, having attended many meetings as the Nike representative.  He takes the position previously held by Art Chou (vice president of research, development, & design; Rawlings Sporting Goods Company; St. Louis, MO).

“SGMA would like to thank Art Chou for his service to the NOCSAE board, to SGMA and to the industry,” said SGMA President Tom Cove.  “His time spent working with NOCSAE and his professional expertise which he shared was much appreciated.”

Prior to joining Nike in 2005, Fuchs spent eight years as a senior product safety engineer with the testing laboratory TÜV Süd where evaluated a wide range of consumer products and machinery.  He is a graduate of Northeastern University’s College of Engineering in Boston, Massachusetts.  Fuchs is currently a member of the ASTM F08.55 sub committee on Body Padding.  He was previously a NAPSI certified playground safety inspector and USSF soccer referee.  His hobbies include pick-up soccer, backpacking, and exploring the great outdoors with his family.  He, his wife, and three children are residents of Portland, Oregon.
