California Basketball Coach Wins "Brockness" Bracket Challenge By Intrepid Sportswear

Date: 4/16/12

Seattle, WA—April 10, 2012-- High school basketball coach Stephen Garrett is the winner of the 2012 “Brockness” Bracket Challenge put on by Seattle-based Intrepid Sportswear. The head coach of the girls’ varsity basketball team at Thomas Downey High School in Modesto, California, took home the $2,500 first place prize.

The contest consisted of a national social media push through Facebook and Twitter where contestants could enter to win prizes based on their guesses for the winners of the men’s NCAA tournament basketball games. The entry with the most points at the end of the tournament won the prize, and Garrett had 164 out of a possible 192 points in the bracket challenge.

The “Brockness” Bracket Challenge was named after Milwaukee Bucks forward Jon Brockman, who has partnered with the Seattle-based company this season. The former University of Washington star continues to have close ties to the Greater Seattle area and his alma matter, where he became the program’s all-time leading rebounder and second all-time scorer during his four years as a Husky.

“The ‘Brockness’ Bracket Challenge was a chance for us to say thanks to all the coaches and athletic directors who’ve outfitted their teams with our uniforms,” said Rob Grabow, Founder/President of Intrepid Sportswear, “Congratulations to our first place winner and each of our daily prize winners.”

In addition to cash prizes, Intrepid gave away Brockman-autographed basketballs and sports gear for 24 days straight leading up to the championship game.
Brockman will be featured in Intrepid’s advertisement in the April edition of SLAM Magazine.
