Female Specific Singlet the Next Step for Women’s Wrestling

Women’s Freestyle Wrestling will be on display this summer at the 2012 London Games. The women’s portion of the Freestyle program began in Athens 2004 and has quickly gained an increase in support and interest pushing TV viewership higher than previous years. A greater emphasis has been placed on this athletic choice for girls and women thanks to the dedication of wrestling manufacturer Brute Wrestling. Brute Wrestling has placed a greater emphasis on female wrestling apparel for the upcoming season in hopes that greater steps can be taken to build women’s wrestling up to an equal level as their male counterparts.

Brute has developed the first singlet designed specifically for women as part of their 2012 line of products. “The Brute Women’s Performance Cut singlet provides the female wrestler with something she has never had before: a uniform that allows the female athlete to compete at an optimal level with comfort, fit and technologies similar to elite men’s singlets”, said Jeff Bowyer, National Sales Manager for Brute Wrestling. “We want to ensure that we provide all athletes with cutting edge products that meet their performance needs.” By designing the singlet from scratch, Brute has eliminated the “modified men’s singlet” feel that has constantly plagued the female wrestler. Implementing thicker shoulder straps and bra-liners allow the singlet to provide the wrestler with proper support and coverage while a tailored cut and shorter 5” graded inseam reduces bulkiness and ensures a more comfortable fit.

Brute enlisted the support of standout female wrestler Leigh Jaynes to assist in the creation of their Women’s Performance Cut singlet. Jaynes has achieved success at all levels of competition and has held a place on Team USA since 2007. Jaynes is currently ranked number two at 59 kilograms for Team USA and is an alternate for the 2012 London Games. Jaynes’ extensive experience and champion input have helped design Brute’s Women’s Performance Cut singlet into the technically superior uniform that female wrestlers have needed.

"I liked the look of the mesh and it is obvious that this was constructed for a female wrestler with thoughtful seams that draw the eyes to an hourglass shape”, said Jaynes. “During practice, I can easily wear the Rogue AVT 2 over my t-shirt as we sometimes do to get comfortable in our competition wear. I usually bring more than one singlet for competition to change if needed but I am fine wearing this one all day.  I'm sure it's due to the ventilation of the mesh coupled with the additional liners.  This is a full coverage singlet so now I can do what I came to do, which is wrestle!"

The Brute Women’s Performance Cut singlet is available immediately in stock, custom sewn, and custom sublimated options.
