SFIA’s Litigation & Risk Management Summit Achieves Record Attendance
NATIONAL HARBOR, MD – April 3, 2013 – A record number of industry professionals gathered outside of Washington, DC for the SFIA’s 6th Annual Litigation and Risk Management Summit held on April 1-2, 2013. The event, hosted by the SFIA Legal Task Force, allows attendees to stay abreast on the latest legal developments affecting the sports and fitness industry while also becoming aware of future challenges facing the industry.
“The Litigation and Risk Management Summit has been the accumulation of a year’s worth of work by a host of people to present a cutting edge legal education program both for lawyers and members of the sports and fitness industry. We expected and achieved a record attendance while providing a tremendous program,” said SFIA Legal Task Force Chairman Mark Granger (Granger Legal Consulting).
This year’s agenda topics featured panels on product recalls, false advertising, and women’s sports injuries. The always popular “What Keeps You up at Night?” panel discussion with industry in-house counsels featured SFIA members Bauer, Hillerich & Bradsby, Jarden, STX, and Under Armour.
“I found the day both informative and a great networking event,” said Everlast CEO and SFIA Board Member Neil Morton. “It is incredibly useful to understand the issues that are currently being discussed in Washington, DC and given guidance on how best to navigate those issues should they relate to your business. The presentations were both fascinating and gave great perspective on current high profile areas of potential commercial risk.”
In addition to the panels, keynote sessions included a Washington Insights presentation, an update on head protection research in sports, and the latest precedents set from California Prop 65. The Litigation and Risk Management Summit, held prior to the DRI Product Liability Seminar, also featured the SFIA’s Annual State of the Industry presentation which is debuted every year at the event and delivered by SFIA president and CEO Tom Cove.
"The Litigation and Risk Management Summit is exactly the type of event the SFIA Thought Leadership program strives to provide to its members. Targeted, timely and useful, attendees are able to bring insight back to their company that they can address immediately," said SFIA President and CEO Tom Cove.
