Mock Trial on Product Liability Issues Added to 2014 SFIA Litigation & Risk Management Summit Agenda
SILVER SPRING, MD – February 12, 2014 – A half-day mock trial on product liability has been added to the agenda of the 2014 SFIA Litigation & Risk Management Summit to enhance the industry’s premier legal risk event. The SFIA Litigation & Risk Management Summit will be held April 7-8, 2014 at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix, AZ, preceding the annual Defense Research Institute (DRI) Product Liability Conference.
“The mock trial is a great addition to an already outstanding industry event,” said Tom Cove, SFIA President and CEO. “Based on the feedback we received from last year’s attendees, it was important that we add this component so attendees can experience, firsthand, situations that arise in an interactive court room environment.”
The Mock Trial showcases lawyers from SFIA’s Legal Task Force as well as experts from SFIA Gold Corporate Partner Exponent and Silver Corporate Partner Stericycle as they demonstrate a civil lawsuit featuring common trade issues related to a major equipment retailer. Encompassing international trade and regulation issues with Chinese manufacturers, negligence issues, product labeling faults, and liability issues, this trial will provide attendees with expert insight in a unique forum.
“The Legal Task Force has put together a top-notch trial that demonstrates the do’s and don’ts of a high caliber case,” said Mark Granger, SFIA Legal Task Force Chairman Mark and Principal, Granger Legal Consulting. “As the industry will continue to face liability and labeling challenges, we wanted to develop a more involved presentation so that our audience will leave with valuable court room experience that can’t be found elsewhere.”
In addition to the mock trial, special guest attorney and 2-time NFL Super Bowl official Ed Hochuli will share his experiences officiating in the NFL, and how they teach valuable lessons for negotiating in the legal world.
Other notable Summit presentations include a presentation on the State of the Sports and Fitness Industry, a session on Health Opportunities and Threats: The Washington Prospective, a review of U.S.-Canadian Regulation Comparisons and Changes, an exclusive discussion with SFIA In-House Counsel and Claims Professionals, a Review of Youth Injuries in Sports, and a major retailer panel including experts from Dick’s, The Sports Authority, and SFIA Platinum Corporate Partner ETS Corporation.
