Experts Gather in Las Vegas to Examine Critical Legal & Risk Topics Impacting the Industry
SILVER SPRING, MD – February 10, 2015 – Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) members gathered in Las Vegas last week at the 2015 SFIA Litigation & Risk Management Summit to discuss the latest legal and regulatory issues affecting the industry. Conference topics ranged from helmet standards to intellectual property rights, with the keynote being given by Joseph Mohorovic, Commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
“Commissioner Mohorovic's presentation was encouraging,” said Bruce Cranner, SFIA Legal Task Force member and Partner, Frilot LLC. “He’s enthusiastic and wants to see more industry involvement into the rule making process. This year’s Summit really turned out to be another top notch event that any sports & fitness brand would benefit from attending.”
In addition to Commissioner Mohorovic’s presentation, other highlights of the event included SFIA President & CEO Tom Cove providing attendees with 2015 trends in his first State of the Industry speech of the year, a special session on legal risks related to omni-channel retailing and social media, and a panel on failure to warn claims featuring the counsel of Hillerich & Bradsby.
“The SFIA Litigation & Risk Management Summit is a must attend event for small businesses in the sporting goods and fitness industry,” said Melissa Dawson, Molten USA President and SFIA Board Member. “The two day event featured presentations by the industry’s leading attorneys, who discussed the safety and litigation challenges associated with the rapidly changing sporting and fitness goods landscape, as well as techniques for litigation prevention. I greatly appreciate the extensive information on a variety of pressing topics, complemented by fantastic networking opportunities. This summit provides incomparable value.”
The 2016 SFIA Litigation & Risk Management Summit will be held on February 9-10 in New Orleans, LA and will continue to immediately precede the Defense Research Institute (DRI) Product Liability Conference.
