Olympian Jennie Finch and Sports Doctor James Andrews to Join Roger Goodell on SFIA Sports Participation Panel
Dynamic Discussion to Highlight 2015 SFIA Industry Leaders Summit
SILVER SPRING, MD – August 4, 2015 – U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist Jennie Finch and nationally renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews have joined the speaker roster for the 2015 SFIA Industry Leaders Summit, September 9-10 at The Roosevelt Hotel – New Orleans.
Finch and Andrews will take part in a youth sports participation panel along with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Moderated by Sports & Fitness Industry Association President & CEO Tom Cove, the session will examine the challenges facing youth sports participation such as sports specialization, overuse injuries and excessive competition, and other trends. The panel will explore what needs to be done to improve the overall sports climate in the United States and to reverse the alarming inactivity pandemic.

Jennie Finch is a former collegiate All-American softball pitcher and first-baseman. Finch played collegiately for the Arizona Wildcats, where she became an All-American and captured the National Championship. In 2004, she helped lead the USA Softball team to a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens and a silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics Games in Beijing. Finch is known as “the most famous softball player in history.”
Dr. Andrews is internationally known and recognized for his skills as an orthopedic surgeon as well as his scientific and clinic research contributions in knee, shoulder and elbow injury prevention and treatment. He is the head of the Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Center and serves as team doctor for the University of Alabama, Auburn University, and the Washington Redskins. On July 10, 2015, Dr. Andrews was inducted into the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine Hall of Fame.
