CPSC Chairman & FTC Director Highlight Key Industry Regulatory & Compliance Topics at SFIA LR2MS
SILVER SPRING, MD – February 3, 2016 - More than 100 of the industry’s leading lawyers, risk managers, and regulatory professionals gathered in the ‘Big Easy’ on February 1-2, 2016 to hear from Chairman Elliot Kaye, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and Director Jessica Rich, Bureau of Consumer Protection, Federal Trade Commission (FTC), during the 2016 SFIA Litigation, Regulatory & Risk Management Summit (LR2MS).
Chairman Kaye and Director Rich provided keen insights on their respective organization’s current initiatives and shared details on how they may impact the way companies within the sports & fitness industry do business. A common message expressed by both officials was the importance of government and industry collaboration to address critical issues, including safety, privacy, and fraud, that impact consumers of all ages.
“Chairman Kaye and Director Rich candidly articulated their agency’s views on timely industry issues such as product hazard reporting and deceptive advertising claims,” said SFIA president & CEO, Tom Cove. “SFIA is appreciative of the commitment voiced by each of them to have open dialogue and find solutions on the variety of important issues that impact consumers in the sports & fitness industry”, added Cove.
Over the course of the two-day summit, attendees also probed numerous timely and relevant topics including, but not limited to, intellectual property rights, helmets & traumatic brain injury (TBI), cyber security, and border crossing challenges & solutions. The subjects were presented in breakout session format that encouraged open dialogue between peers and CLE-eligible general sessions.
“Rarely do I leave a conference that I wish it were longer, but with LR2MS it’s always the case”, said Thom Parks, Vice President of Corporate Affairs, BRG Sports Group. “The quality of the presentations and speakers, the on-time organization of the conference, and the unique networking opportunities make LR2MS a great value”, concluded Parks.
“This was my fourth time attending LR2MS. The attendees, many whom I’ve known for some time and equally new faces, were like old friends”, commented Evan Locke, Senior Product Safety Manager, adidas Group. “Each interaction I had provided an opportunity to share ideas and thoughts with a common thread across the many sports industry interests we represent”, added Locke.
