Date: 10/17/16

International Trade Commission Announces MTB Process – Petitions Due in 60 Days

Silver Spring, MD, October 17, 2016 – On Friday, October 14, the International Trade Commission (ITC) opened the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill (MTB) process for tariff relief on qualified sports and fitness products.  The ITC will start accepting petitions from U.S. businesses requesting a suspension or reduction in tariffs on certain U.S. imports.  The launch begins the new process for consideration of duty relief via the MTB and is managed by the ITC.  The final deadline to file a petition is Monday, December 12, 2016 at 5:15 PM.

Interested Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) member companies that qualify for tariff relief must file petitions with the ITC.   The ITC will vet all the requests for relief, recommend approval or dismissal of petitions, and send a report on their findings to Congress.  Petitions that are filed and reviewed will be published and available to the public to view and submit comments.

On September 28, 2016, the SFIA announced that it has begun working with its members on petitions for ITC consideration.
