*Webinar Corrections:*
1. Backpacks classified under 4202.92.20 are covered under the proposed 10% tariffs. Backpacks may also be classified elsewhere in the tariff, but not all backpacks are included in the tariff List 3.

2. For List 1 goods whereby a particular product is grandted an EXEMPTION through the current ongoing process, the exemption, if granted, applies retroactively to July 6, 2018, and will extend for 1 year after hte publication of the exclusion determination in the Federal Register. USTR will announce their determinations on pending requests on a rolling basis.

3. For List 3 goods (the main focus of the webinar) that are excluded in this first process, whereby companies can petition to exclude the 8 digit tariff subheadings, those products covered under the tariff subheadings will avoid 301 duties altogether indefinitely.

On Wednesday, July 11th, 2018, the United States Trade Representative released a list of proposed targets for a 10% tariff on Chinese imports. The list was developed to satisfy President Trump’s request for a list of products for an additional $200 billion in tariffs, to punish China for intellectual property rights violations. The list of proposed products to face a 10% tariff includes sports bags, hats, helmet chinstraps and visors, baseball/softball gloves, batting gloves, hockey gloves, ski gloves, “sports use gloves” and golf bags. This is the latest round of proposed tariffs, following $50 billion in tariffs announced earlier this year. Should the president continue to use tariffs to apply pressure on China, it is very likely that our industry will be hit harder in the future.
Join this webinar to learn about the new tariffs and the SFIA-led effort to exempt industry products from the tariffs list. With the official hearing process regarding exemptions from these tariffs starting in 10 days - on Friday, July 27th, this is an urgent matter. SFIA is prepared to provide immediate and consolidated action to assist our members on this issue. The webinar will explain the origin of the tariffs, the exemption process and how companies can participate in the process by joining exemption petitions.
SFIA has arranged for David Cohen, with Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, to present on this important webinar. David is an expert in international trade, customs and export law who will lead the discussion on the best plan of action, advise SFIA throughout the process and organize industry petitions for exemptions from the tariffs.
