SFIA Releases 2016 Single Sport and Fitness Participation Reports

A total of 95 reports including four brand new offerings

Washington, DC, June 14, 2016 – The Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) released 95 Single Sport and Fitness Participation Reports today. These reports provide an in-depth analysis and breakdown of participation demographics by specific sport or fitness activity. Among the most popular reports downloaded in 2015, this year’s batch includes four brand new reports: Dance, Step, and other Choreographed Exercise to Music; Cross-Training Style Workouts; Kettlebells and Pickleball.

“The addition of four new Single Sport and Fitness Reports shows that the landscape of sports participation is ever-changing,” said Corey Bockhaus, SFIA Senior Manager Marketing and Communications. “We look forward to this release date every year because of the value it adds to membership and our research library.”

Each report tracks participation according to gender, participation frequency, age breakdown, geographic breakout by region, market size area, income, education level, and cross-sport participation. Here are the top 25 reports from 2015, which are now available:

Results for the 2016 SFIA Single Sports and Fitness Reports were gathered by Sports Marketing Surveys USA.

To gather this data, Synovate/IPSOS carried out 32,658 online interviews in a nationwide sample of individuals and households.  

“There have been some interesting changes in sports participation this year. The single sports reports give insights into the trends in participation, the demographic profile of players and other sports they play,” said Keith Storey, President, Sports Marketing Surveys USA.
